Carved Coral Cabochon

Carved Coral Cabochon 2"L x 7/8"W x 1/2"D Hardness 3 - 4

I purchased this piece of beautifully carved coral back in the mid-70's. I love the gradation of pink to white and white to pink. I always thought I would make a barrette out of it. It is exquisitely carved, with great flowering detail. It curves slightly but the bottom is flat as seen in the photo.

While this is a piece of coral has been in my collection for at least 50 years, there are certain considerations given to owning and purchasing this material. I found the following to be both informative and reassuring:
