Eye of Horus ~ Egyptian Jewelry
The Eye of Horus 1 1/4" L x 3/4" W 1 1/8 W w/bail
The Eye of Horus is one of the best-known symbols of ancient Egypt. Known also as the Wadjet, this magical symbol is believed to provide protection, health, and rejuvenation. So.. you ask, how did I end up with one... It's a story for sure....
We traveled to Egypt shortly after their Spring Uprising in 2011. We had been planning the trip for months. We almost didn't go but finially decided we would. We had many amazing sites all to ourselves. We were the darlings of every vendor wherever we went!
These pieces were purchased in a small jewelry shop in Luxor. 1st - they ask 'would you like a cup of hybiscus tea, then they ask if you are hungry and trays of sweets would appear magically. Then the trays of jewelry came out, and there is a lot to choose from. This piece, I was told, is sterling silver (no marks) and is enameled. The earrings are scarabs and are being sold separately. Why am I selling... because I have the memories and want to share the pieces.
I love the deep blue of the enamel & the golden color in the eye. The bail has tiny decorations engraved on both sides.
