Egyptian Scarabs ~ Pendants or Earrings

Egyptian Scarabs ~ 3/4" L x 1/2" W 1/4"D  Sold as a pair

The reason that the scarab is so often depicted in everything from hieroglyphs to jewelry, statues, and engravings is due to the popular belief that it was an amulet of protection against illness, death and ultimately ensured eternal life. Powerful little bug for sure!

We traveled to Egypt shortly after their Spring Uprising in 2011. We had been planning the trip for months. We almost didn't go but finially decided we would. We had many amazing sites all to ourselves. We were the darlings of every vendor wherever we went!

These pieces were purchased in a small jewelry shop in Luxor. 1st - they ask 'would you like a cup of hybiscus tea, then they ask if you are hungry and trays of sweets would appear magically. Then the trays of jewelry came out, and there is a lot to choose from! These pieces, I was told,are sterling silver (no marks) and inset with gold plate. They are very detailed and as you can see, they are detailed on the reverse.

Why am I selling... because I have the memories and want to share the pieces. I'm going to include sterling earwires just in case!
